Larry and I were married on October 19th, 1996. This was my 1st marriage and Larry's 2nd. He had already been blessed twice with a daughter and son; Christi, born in 1972, & Chuck, born in 1976. We both wanted to have a child together, but I was 39 years old and Larry was 49 when we married. I had a feeling that conceiving a child may present a challenge for us.

We let a reasonable amount of time pass before we decided to explore the reasons why nature was not taking it's course. As I anticipated, we found out that there were problems keeping us from conceiving; all correctable we thought! For a period of time, we went through a course of different treatments that were not producing results. Larry never was too keen on aggressive infertility methods, so when we felt we had reached our limit we began discussing adoption. Near the end of 1999, I suggested that we adopt a child from Vietnam. The funny thing about this was I never knew anyone who adopted a Vietnamese child, and didn't even know if it was possible!

Larry was an Officer in the U. S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and I know that those disturbing memories were still vivid in his mind. Several times he mentioned how unfair it was for the innocent people of Vietnam, especially the precious children, to be plagued with such destruction in their lives and to their beautiful country. As I imagined, his response to my idea was very positive. Suddenly a light shined in his eyes, and I had a feeling that this was the answer to our dreams. God had finally put us on the right path that would lead us to our child! Could this have been destiny?
